LICENSING JUMPER™

The Jumper™ platform is open source software. It allows you to deploy our software in your organization, or provide collaboration solutions to your customers and partners with no strings attached.

The Jumper™ software modules are dual licensed. We comply with the General Public License version 2 (GPLv2) and the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL).

Jumper follows an innovative Contributor Agreement ("CA") policy for particular improvement modules that do not dynmically link to the GPL modules. These improvements and any related customization that is provided for or by customers allow contributors to retain their own copyright while sharing a joint copyright interest in the contributed code. This way contributors retain all the rights granted by copyright law while sharing those rights with the open source project sponsor so that the code is protected.

Jumper chose the CDDL as the Contributor Agreement license because it believes this license strikes a good balance of allowing customes to own and control and changes they make to the Jumper code base. The CDDL allows customers to contribute any modifications to the Jumper sourcefiles back to the community only if and when they choose to distribute those modifications. However, Jumper recognizes that over time there may be a need to adjust the license or adapt to new licensing models as they evolve. The CA will allow Jumper to consider alternative licensing models for the Jumper code base (although the code will always remain available under the CDDL as well).

JUMPER™ TRADEMARK USAGE

Jumper is a brand associated with Jumper Networks technology. The Jumper JumpStart logo program was developed to highlight specific products that leverage Jumper through the use of the Jumper source code. Jumper trademarks are intellectual property, with value both to us at Jumper and to our community of customers, developers, partners, and supporters. When our trademarks maintain their strong association with quality and compatibility, the entire community benefits.

Trademarks are words or symbols used to identify the source of products, technologies, programs and services, enabling customers to distinguish one provider's offerings from another's. When we say "products" in these guidelines, we mean all types of offerings, ranging from commercial products and services to open source and free software and informational web sites. Trademark law protects the public's ability to rely on trademarks for information about product source and quality, requiring trademark owners to take steps to police proper use of their marks We provide these Jumper Trademark and Logo Usage Requirements ("guidelines") as part of a comprehensive program to satisfy this obligation, and to help you and all of our community members make proper use of our marks consistent with these guidelines and the law.
Review these guidelines for using or referencing the Jumper trademarks.

Overview of Jumper's Trademark Guidelines

  • The Jumper trademarks cannot be included in the name of any third party product, technology, program or service without express written consent from Jumper Networks. This includes free and educational materials, open source distributions, and the titles of informational web sites. Just ask and we will gladly grant permission.
  • Mark and attribute the Jumper trademarks. When making fair use of Jumper trademarks, or the Jumper brand name, mark and attribute them as outlined.
  • Products or services that meet the criteria to use the logo but have chosen not to commercially license the logo should use the phrase "Powered by Jumper" (but not the Jumper logos).
  • If your product is a software tool designed for search, indexing, referencing, or bookmarking based on the Jumper Framework, you can convey on the packaging or marketing materials that the tool is 'Powered by Jumper'. You should use the phrase in small lettering that is subordinate in size and placement to the product name.
  • You may only use Jumper logos by permission. To find out more about Jumper's logo programs and to apply for a commercial or non-commercial license, please contact us.

Please follow these guidelines in making use of the Jumper marks. An example of the available trademarks for licensing and dispay are defined below.

Many corporations are starting to consider Open Source technologies as a way to reduce IT spending while taking advantage of existing technologies. Many companies are widening Open Source reach to projects that wouldn't have been considered before. With the current economic situation cutting IT budgets, even more institutions are reconsidering their attitudes toward open source technology. Think about yourself and the company you work for: How many projects did you want to launch but had to put off until next year? How many business opportunities you believe could have embraced if your budget had been friendlier? We firmly believe that Open Source opens the door for companies that are looking to keep on growing despite the current environment.
