JUMPER OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

OPEN SOURCE

Jumper is open source software. The software modules are provided under a combination of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2) and the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL). Jumper is open-source software based on the belief that the open-source model is an effective means to foster community interest, education and development around model driven integration based on the Web Ontology Language (OWL).

OUR CONTRIBUTIONS

Jumper is a hybrid open-source business model. We have combined three open-source projects to meet the specific pre-clinical need for volumes of complex distributed data. In the process we have created a completely new and innovative tool for searching, interpreting, and integrating structured data based on OWL. Jumper Indexing software includes a number of proprietary extensions to the open-source code modules, including the JUMP-OWL database knowledge representation language and a proprietary search algorithm. The Jumper Index thus contains various mixes of both proprietary and open-source software components that meet the specific requirements of our customers.

The GPL applies to the core software modules and to changes Jumper has made to the source code in those modules. Jumper provides a number of addtional component files that act essentially as middleware binding the core modules together (without dynamically linking to a library) and providing specific additional features that are reasonably considered independent and separate works in themselves. These new modules are also provided as open-source under the CDDL. The result is a is a completely new and innovative semantic web tool that dramatically improves your ability to leverage targeted data assets without the need for traditional federation or common models.

OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE

The reality is that our customers want access to the source-code. In Life Sciences many applications are developed in-house to meet specific research objectives and our software requires the flexibility be quickly customized to meet these same needs.

Jumper provides our customers greater control of the tools they use to drive their business.

  • Jumper delivers validated code to ensure that open source is not more open than it should be.
  • Jumper delivers enterprise level support to guarantee the level of customer service you are used to.
  • Jumper also delivers full legal indemnity to ensure customers who use open-source software get protection from copyright infringement lawsuits.

Our strategy is to certify, repair, improve, and maintain the open-source software we've bundled. By providing complete access to the source-code developers can customize the Jumper Index to meet specific research and assay requirements for searching, accessing, and integrating structured data. Relying on a packaged vendor to write custom code is an expensive and time consuming process. Without access to the source code it is very difficult to maintain and modify software as requirements change.

Open source products are clearly providing a lot of customer value. Questions about whether open source can be a viable business model have been answered in the marketplace and are providing a new software landscape that offers companies more cost effective options. At Jumper we are committed to the open-source model. We understand and support the open-source community by offering significant improvements to both the Web Ontology Language, OWL.API, and Relational.OWL software. We offer these improvements back to the open-source community and maintain all original copyrights on open-soruce software modules bundled into the Jumper Index.
